ENROLLMENT INFO and PROCEDURE (CADETS)
The NSCC/NLCC affords equal opportunity for participation to all young Americans regardless of race, color, religion or gender. To qualify for our senior program, the NSCC, the prospective cadet must be between 13 and 17 years of age and enrolled as (at least) a Freshmen in High School . Youth between the ages of 10 (and at least in 5th grade) and 13 (and not in High School) can apply to our junior program, the NLCC. The prospective cadet must be unmarried and a full-time student in good academic standing and of good moral character. Eligibility requirements may be found in the USNSCC Regulations.
A medical examination similar to a high school sports physical is required for all cadet applicants to the NSCC or NLCC. No one will be denied admission to the NSCC/NLCC due to a medical disability. Where a medical condition precludes full, unlimited participation, a Request for Accommodation may be presented by the parent or guardian for review so the cadet may participate in NSCC activities to the maximum extent possible. The procedures for requesting an accommodation can be found in the NSCC Medical Reference Manual. In addition to having an interest in the program, all prospective cadets must have parental consent and must be prepared to attend drills regularly in order to enroll.
Cadets need to be ready to have fun and be willing to learn new things. While not a prerequisite for enrollment, cadets will find that physical fitness is a key element of success in the NSCC/NLCC program, and that their continued enrollment and advancement will depend on their ability to pass fitness tests. Our program uses the President’s Council on Physical Fitness program and standards to measure their progress. Tests are given at least twice per year, and passing scores are required to attend Recruit Training and for advancement in rate.
INITIAL ENROLLMENT FEE IS $225.00 (Cash or Check) – $232.03 for Credit
The initial (Cadet) enrollment fee for this program is $225.00 and is due upon completion of the application paperwork and initial qualification into the program.
The enrollment fee covers the cadet’s initial enrollment into this national organization and also provides coverage of the cadet under secondary insurance in the event of an accident or mishap during the first year.
Once enrolled, cadets are issued the following and are responsible for keeping these items in good working order:
Below items are not provided by the unit, and are the cadet’s responsibility to obtain as part of the part of the cadet uniform. It is highly recommend you check with Supply prior to purchasing for potential availability.

Parental Support
Parents need to keep in mind that if their son or daughter decides to join either the NSCC or NLCC, they will play an important role in assuring their child’s success as a cadet. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a non-profit, volunteer organization that relies heavily on parents to support the efforts of volunteer officers and instructors working with their children. With this in mind, parents should:
• Encourage their child to be respectful of officers and adult volunteers.
• Praise their child for his or her accomplishments.
• Remind their child to listen to and obey instructions.
• Be punctual in dropping off and picking up their child from USNSCC functions.
Parents who are interested in volunteering with unit activities and responsibilities are encouraged to read the section on Volunteer Opportunities.

- PT Shirt, Short and Ball Cap
- Identification Card
- Dress Uniforms and headgear “Dixie cup”
- Navy Working Uniform (“NWU”) Type III
- Additional items may be issued as required, or in accordance with specific training
Below items are not provided by the unit, and are the cadet’s responsibility to obtain as part of the part of the cadet uniform. It is highly recommend you check with Supply prior to purchasing for potential availability.
- Black leather oxford dress shoes are the preferred shoe type for cadet dress uniforms.
- Black leather utility “combat” boots, 8 inch or higher, are recommended for the NWUs and other field-type uniforms.
Approximate Additional Potential Expenses during the First Year
- $50.00 Marksmanship Training and Campout (3 days in the Fall). Not required. Other campouts and field trips for the weekend may also be planned and are about the same cost.
- $250.00 Recruit Training (2 week Boot Camp) – Occurs during winter break or over the summer. Required in order to advance in the program. Does not include transportation.
- $125.00 – Annual Re-enrollment fee (covers registration, administration, and insurance).
- $0 – $150 (approximately) Training activities in which a cadet participates with (Advanced Trainings) may have additional associated expenses. Most training activities do not include the cost of transportation to and from and are the responsibility of the cadet.
